Caique Parrot Care – 5 Tips For Caring For Your Pet Caique Bird

Caique Parrots are wonderful little parrots with lively personalities that make wonderful pet birds. Here are 5 tips to care for your bird so it can live a long and healthy life with you and your family.

 

Food-Since caiques are known for their love of eating, it seems very appropriate to start with this tip. They need fresh fruit and vegetables, seed sprouts, some table food and a high quality pellet mix as a supplement. Change the water as often as necessary to keep it fresh. This will cut down on mold growth and any infections that can result from ingesting mold. When feeding fresh food, be sure to remove the food from the cage after several hours for the same reason.

 

the cage-Although they are small, they are quite active and do best when they move freely in the cage. Bigger is always better when it comes to cage size, but the minimum size should be 24′” high, 24″ wide and 24″ deep. As they are avid climbers, horizontal bars will be greatly appreciated by your birds. Avoid metals that are toxic to birds, and make your cage bird-proof. It is guaranteed to be safe. Wooden cages should also be avoided as they like to chew, and you would soon find that your bird has escaped by chewing through a wooden cage. The interaction-These little parrots love people and need people to love them. They can benefit from at least one hour of human interaction a day. Taking care of their health– Properly cared for, these parrots have been known to live for 30 years. Like many parrots, they are susceptible to airborne diseases and infections such as psittacosis and other respiratory diseases if the air is not kept clean. Since captive birds are exposed to more dander, feather particles, and other pollutants found in many homes, filtering the air will keep their airways cleaner, make them healthier, and ultimately increase their lifespan.
